Cassava Technologies' AI factory in Cape Town, described by the company as the continent's first NVIDIA-powered AI factory, is now fully operational and completely at capacity, driving the company's push to build African-owned AI computing infrastructure.

Leadership

Hardy Pemhiwa, president and group CEO of Cassava Technologies, has described the vision behind the facility, which the company says is Africa's first AI-enabled data centre built in collaboration with NVIDIA accelerated computing.

Location and Scale

The AI factory is located in Cape Town, at the centre of Cassava Technologies' drive to build African-owned AI computing infrastructure. The company has said it plans to expand the model to its other data centre facilities in Egypt, Kenya, Morocco and Nigeria.

Why it matters

The facility provides the processing power for local startups and enterprises to train large-scale AI models without relying on overseas data centres.
