Cybastion Unveils $75M AI Data Centre and Power Plant Plan for Cameroon

Technology infrastructure company Cybastion announced a $75 million plan to build an AI-powered data centre paired with a dedicated power plant in Douala, Cameroon, unveiled on August 27, 2026, at the US-Cameroon Bilateral Economic Dialogue.

The project pairs computing infrastructure with dedicated power generation, addressing one of the most cited constraints on data-centre development in Central Africa: reliable electricity supply. Cybastion has framed the combined facility as a way to offer more stable AI and cloud-computing capacity to businesses and public institutions in Cameroon and the wider Central African region.

### Addressing regional infrastructure gaps

Central Africa has lagged behind other regions of the continent in large-scale data-centre investment, with power reliability frequently cited by operators as the primary obstacle. By coupling generation capacity directly with the data centre, Cybastion's approach mirrors strategies increasingly used elsewhere in Africa to de-risk AI infrastructure investment in markets with unreliable grid power.

The announcement followed Cameroon's inaugural MINRESI AI Week held earlier in the year, adding to a sequence of AI-related institutional and infrastructure activity in the country through 2026. Cybastion has not disclosed a target completion date for the facility.
