Sierra Leone's Geneline-X Advances at READY Salone Investor Day

Sierra Leonean startup Geneline-X was selected as one of five startups advancing to international opportunities at the READY Salone Investor Day, published August 5, 2026, recognising the company's AI-driven language and connectivity tools.

Krio-to-English speech recognition

Geneline-X has built an AI speech-recognition tool that translates between Krio, Sierra Leone's widely spoken creole lingua franca, and English — addressing a practical gap in a country where much digital content and many services remain available only in English.

Built for low connectivity

The startup also developed a chatbot designed to function in low-connectivity environments, reflecting the infrastructure constraints many Sierra Leonean users face outside Freetown. Judges at the Investor Day highlighted the tool's practical, locally grounded design as a key reason for its selection.

Part of a growing startup ecosystem

Geneline-X's selection adds a private-sector success story to Sierra Leone's national AI narrative in 2026, following the government's National AI Strategy and its minister's appearance at the ILO in Geneva — together suggesting a country trying to build AI capability across policy, international diplomacy and homegrown entrepreneurship simultaneously.
