UCT Launches African Hub on AI Safety, Peace and Security

The University of Cape Town and the Global Centre on AI Governance launched the African Hub on AI Safety, Peace and Security on 28 September 2025, funded by the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and Canada's International Development Research Centre.

The University of Cape Town, in collaboration with the Global Centre on AI Governance, launched the African Hub on AI Safety, Peace and Security on 28 September 2025, funded by the UK government's FCDO and Canada's IDRC.

The hub is the twelfth AI4D-FCDO multidisciplinary AI lab established in sub-Saharan Africa, with opening remarks from UCT Vice-Chancellor Professor Mosa Moshabela and the UK's Emily Middleton.
