Chad Establishes Directorate General for Artificial Intelligence

The Chadian government created a Directorate General for Artificial Intelligence by presidential decree in September 2025, establishing a dedicated institutional body under the digital-economy ministry to coordinate AI policy, strategy development, and cross-sector implementation.

The new directorate is tasked with developing regulatory frameworks, coordinating AI-related initiatives across ministries, and serving as the government's central point of contact for AI partnerships with international organizations and private-sector actors.

The decree reflects Chad's early institutional steps toward formal AI governance, coming as the country works to expand its broader digital-transformation agenda amid infrastructure constraints common across the Sahel region.
