Digital Parks Africa Plans Lagos Data Centre As Nigeria Demand Grows

Digital Parks Africa is expanding into Nigeria with plans for a data centre in Lagos, adding another infrastructure project to one of Africa’s most competitive digital markets.

The planned facility is part of a broader build-out of cloud and data infrastructure across the continent. As enterprises, banks, governments and startups move more workloads online, demand is rising for reliable local capacity that can support lower latency, data-residency requirements and heavier compute needs.

AI is part of that demand story. While many African AI applications still run on global cloud platforms, local data-centre capacity is becoming more important as organisations handle larger datasets, deploy real-time services and evaluate where sensitive information should be stored.

Nigeria is a natural target for this kind of investment. Lagos remains a major hub for fintech, enterprise software, media, telecoms and public-sector digitisation. But digital infrastructure has to keep pace with that activity if local companies are to build and deploy advanced services at scale.

The project also shows how the AI conversation is widening beyond models and apps. Compute, connectivity, power resilience and hosting capacity are becoming part of the same strategic discussion. Without that foundation, AI adoption can remain dependent on infrastructure located elsewhere.

For Nigeria, the opportunity is to turn demand into durable local capacity. The challenge will be execution: data centres require dependable energy, strong network links, regulatory clarity and long-term enterprise customers.

If delivered, the Lagos project could strengthen Nigeria’s position as a West African infrastructure hub for cloud, enterprise systems and future AI workloads.
