Eswatini Teens Tackle Real-World Problems at Global AI Techathon
The University of Eswatini hosted a two-day AI design sprint for learners aged 12-18 in Matsapha, part of the International Women's Day Global Techathon and the global Teens in AI initiative.

The University of Eswatini (UNESWA), in partnership with Nubian Smarts and UNESWA AI, hosted a two-day innovation event for teenagers on February 14-15, 2026, in Matsapha as part of the International Women's Day Global Techathon.
The Eswatini edition, themed "Give to Gain," took the form of a design sprint in which learners aged 12 to 18 from across the country worked in teams to tackle real-world challenges using artificial intelligence, data science and design thinking. No prior technical experience was required; organisers said curiosity, creativity and a willingness to learn were the only entry requirements.
The event forms part of Teens in AI, a global programme active in more than 100 countries that introduces young people to applied AI and data science through mentorship and hands-on projects. Organisers framed the Matsapha techathon as an effort to build a more inclusive technology ecosystem in Eswatini, particularly for girls and young people from underserved communities.
