LINGUA Africa Launches $250K AI Language Fund Backed by Microsoft, Gates Foundation

Kenya-based Masakhane African Languages Hub partnered with Microsoft AI for Good Lab, the Gates Foundation and Google.org to launch LINGUA Africa, an open call for proposals to strengthen language foundations for inclusive AI across Africa, aiming to empower one billion Africans by 2029.

Funding Tiers

Projects can apply for funding of up to $250,000 in cash plus up to $400,000 in compute credits, with the call for proposals closing on 15 June 2026.
