Madagascar Presents Digital Strategy at World AI Conference in Shanghai

Madagascar participated in the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2026, held from July 17 to 20 in Shanghai, one of the world's largest gatherings of AI researchers, companies and policymakers.

Learning from global leaders

Malagasy officials attending the conference said the trip was intended to expose the country's digital development strategy to the latest advances presented by leading AI research institutions and technology companies, and to identify partnerships that could strengthen Madagascar's own digital transformation efforts.

Part of a wider push

The Shanghai visit follows Madagascar's participation in the Indian Ocean Artificial Intelligence Summit in Antananarivo earlier in 2026, part of a pattern of increased government engagement with international AI forums over the course of the year. Officials have framed both events as steps toward a more coherent national digital strategy, though Madagascar has yet to publish a standalone national AI strategy document of the kind adopted by several neighbouring countries.
