Malian Youth Compete in Regional Challenge IA 2026 AI Competition

Malian youth are among 50 young talents from Mali, Burkina Faso, and Côte d'Ivoire competing in Challenge IA 2026, a regional artificial intelligence competition launched by Leading Change Africa in partnership with Intro Group, running from April to June 2026.

The programme combines an online course covering AI fundamentals, practical tools, and use cases adapted to African realities with a competitive track in which participants develop AI solutions and present them to a jury of experts, entrepreneurs, and technology-sector figures. Winners are eligible for prizes of up to 1 million CFA francs, alongside regional visibility, networking opportunities, and ongoing mentorship.

For Mali, the competition offers a rare regional platform for young AI talent at a time when the country's most visible domestic AI infrastructure project, CIAR-Mali, remains focused on longer-term institutional capacity-building rather than immediate competitive opportunities for youth.

Organisers positioned Challenge IA 2026 as part of a broader effort to build a pipeline of African AI talent capable of developing solutions tailored to local languages, markets, and challenges, rather than relying solely on tools built for other contexts.
