Somalia's National Communications Authority (NCA) opened the second edition of AI Summit Somalia in Mogadishu in June 2026, inaugurated by the Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education.
The summit brought together government officials, technologists, and educators to discuss artificial intelligence's role in Somalia's development, building on the inaugural edition held the previous year. Organisers used the event to highlight both opportunities and risks associated with AI adoption in a country still rebuilding core digital infrastructure after decades of conflict.
The NCA has positioned the summit as part of a broader regulatory and awareness-building effort around emerging technologies, alongside its core mandate overseeing Somalia's telecommunications sector. The Ministry of Education's involvement reflected a growing emphasis on linking AI policy discussions to Somalia's education and skills agenda.
The Mogadishu gathering came in a year that also saw the launch of the Somali National Artificial Intelligence Centre and the third edition of the Bile Initiative's AI training track, suggesting a broader cluster of 2026 AI activity converging around Somalia's capital.
