Tunisia Adopts National AI Strategy 2026-2030 to Guide Development Plan

Tunisia has formally incorporated a National Artificial Intelligence Strategy for 2026-2030 into its wider national development planning, setting out priorities for AI research, workforce development and adoption of AI tools across public administration and industry.

The strategy, developed by Tunisian ministries responsible for digital economy and higher education, is intended to coordinate previously fragmented AI initiatives under a single national roadmap. It sets targets across research funding, technical education, and public-sector digital services, making AI policy a core pillar of the country's economic development plan for the second half of the decade.

### Building on Tunisia's technical education base

Tunisia has invested heavily in technical higher education over the past decade, and the new strategy leans on this existing base, aiming to convert research capacity into applied economic outcomes. The plan places particular emphasis on small and medium enterprises adopting AI tools, alongside continued investment in university-level AI research programmes.

The strategy's adoption follows a year of increased Tunisian government activity around artificial intelligence, including the country's confirmation as host of the 2026 African Olympiad in AI and a pilot AI-based screening system introduced within Tunisian customs administration.
