Liberia Launches Landmark AI Training for Government Officials With UNDP Support

The Government of Liberia, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), launched a landmark Artificial Intelligence training programme for technical officials from ministries and public institutions nationwide, marking one of the country's first structured national efforts to build AI capacity within the public sector.

Approximately 70 government officials received foundational AI training designed to equip them to lead their ministries into the digital future. The programme introduced participants to emerging opportunities in the fast-changing digital landscape, including improved public service delivery, data-driven decision-making and institutional modernization.

UNDP framed the training as part of a broader partnership strategy for building AI capacity across West Africa, following earlier collaboration with Intel to strengthen AI skills in both Liberia and Lesotho.

The training programme is intended as a first step rather than a one-off event, with UNDP and the Liberian government signalling further capacity-building initiatives aimed at technical officials as the country works to formalize its approach to public-sector AI adoption.
