Namibia Advances National AI Strategy Framework as Deloitte Talks Begin

Namibia's Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has begun consultations on a national Artificial Intelligence Strategy Framework, a process led by the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST), as the country works to formalise its approach to AI governance and adoption.

Minister of ICT Emma Theofelus held discussions with a delegation from Deloitte & Touche Namibia on advancing the country's digital transformation agenda, with AI, broadband expansion, cybersecurity and digital infrastructure identified as priority areas. The talks form part of a wider effort to bring international technical expertise into Namibia's strategy development process.

Inclusive governance framing

Theofelus has also called for a more inclusive approach to global AI governance, arguing that artificial intelligence should become a tool for shared prosperity rather than a technology accessible only to a few countries. She has emphasised inclusive digital infrastructure, skills development and responsible AI governance as the pillars Namibia wants reflected in both its domestic framework and its international engagement.

Building on early recognition

The strategy work follows earlier signs of AI capability inside Namibian institutions, including the Bank of Namibia's international recognition for integrating AI and machine-learning tools into its core operations — evidence, officials say, that the foundations for a wider national push already exist.
