Seychelles and India Partner on AI for Fisheries and Aquaculture Management

Seychelles and India announced a cooperation initiative in late August 2026 to apply artificial intelligence to fisheries and aquaculture harvest management, extending a bilateral relationship that had already included Seychelles' participation in the India AI Impact Summit earlier in the year.

The partnership is aimed at using AI-driven tools to support sustainable management of Seychelles' fish stocks and aquaculture output, an economically critical sector for the archipelago, which depends heavily on fisheries for both export revenue and food security. Details on the specific technologies involved, such as satellite-linked catch monitoring or predictive stock modelling, were framed as part of ongoing technical discussions between the two governments.

The announcement, reported around 26 August 2026, builds on Seychelles' broader 2026 push into applied AI policy, following Cabinet approval of a National AI in Education Framework the previous month and the Vice President's attendance at India's AI summit in February.

Officials characterised the fisheries cooperation as an example of AI being deployed for a concrete economic use case rather than purely as a policy or education initiative, reflecting Seychelles' interest in AI applications tied directly to its blue economy.
