Djibouti held its National AI Forum on September 2-3, 2026, opened by President Ismail Omar Guelleh, where officials formally unveiled the country's National Artificial Intelligence Strategy for 2026-2030.
The strategy builds on groundwork laid earlier in the year with UNESCWA and UNESCO support, setting out priority areas including public-sector AI adoption, digital-skills development, and private-sector innovation, framed within the country's Vision Djibouti 2035 development plan.
The forum drew government officials, regional partners, and private-sector representatives, with sessions covering implementation planning and the institutional structures needed to carry the strategy forward over its five-year horizon.
President Guelleh's direct involvement in opening the forum showed high-level political backing for the strategy, following Djibouti's earlier engagement with international bodies including the ITU and Smart Africa on related digital-cooperation efforts.
